It is sad to say that another friend has passed away, the wonderful Fay Lenore. Fay was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1928 to a show business family. By the age of 18 months she was already treading the boards and by the time she was 15 she was a regular on the stage. Fay was a singer, a dancer, a soubrette and an actress. Her long legs and short auburn hair made her a popular principle boy in pantomime and in the 1950's she joined The One O'clock Gang Show. But Fay is best know for her roles in popular soaps, Crossroads, and Take the High Road.
Sadly Fay passed away last month aged 97. She was a great supporter of the Britannia Panopticon, not least because A. E. Pickard helped her mother, Bunty, start in show business when she was just a little girl. Fay shared that story with me in 2005 and I included it in my book Glasgow's Lost Theatre - The Story of the Britannia Music Hall (which you can buy on Amazon). We had hoped one day to write the full story of Fay's mother and aunt (Bijou) who performed as The Gordon Sisters, but sadly, time ran away with us and we never got a chance to write the novel that Fay wanted.
Our thoughts and love are with Fay's family at this time.
Dearest Fay, may your star shine as bright in heaven has it did on earth.
